Having lived in Bali let me explain the teeth thing.
A right of adulthood in Balinese hinduism is a ceremony call teeth filing.
The front teeth are filed to remove the sharp points. This is considered to remove the animal like tendencies and is a sign of taking your full place in society. It is similar to Catholic Confirmation or Jewish Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
