Droll not Troll: If you need an explanation of the American sports:

Baseball is an American sport somewhat like Rounders – a round bat and 4 bases laid out in a diamond, with only one base (home plate) used for batting. “Batting average” is a players ratio of “hits” to at bats, where a “hit” means striking the ball fairly and making it to at least 1st base.

The picture is clearly of American football, which is nothing like what the rest of the world calls “football” (soccer in the USA). and somewhat like Rugby. No bats.

@markm | 8:30 am: I was kidding! Aussie rules football is played with the same kind of ball, although it’s a very different game. I really can’t imagine hitting a ball that shape with a bat!

Having googled the term “nested quadrats”, I get what it means, but it’s hard to see how it ever came to be printed on a shirt!
