It’s “Bondeggi”, I think, silkworm pupae. This is what grinding poverty does to a people. Protein from any source.
In this case – poverty – yes. But I like Sago grubs. Similar to Witchetty Grubs. However in keeping with the white side of my heritage; I prefer them cooked. In PNG, the Villagers put them in a pan with Saksak or Tapiok, and some Sayor. Then they exude all this lovely polyunsaturated oil. They locals were amazed I enjoyed them so much. You can also soak up any excess oil with boiled Taro.
