Food for thought.

My thinking cap tells me that the last digit in that sequence is a 6, not a 5.

You may need to chew it over.

@DnT: 5 is fine. Especially when talking about food, as one sequence starting with 1, 2, 4, 8, 15 is known as cake numbers (maximal number of pieces you can make from n cuts of cake).

@alexmagnus: OTOH, we all know the cake is a lie. Which probably makes those numbers imaginary.

Remember what Billy Crystal used to say on Saturday Night Live:

“It’s much better to look good than to taste good, dahling.”

1248 16 32 64 128 256 512 1024

Ergo: Hexidecimal.

(Which is the easier way of handling binary.

Which is the basic way of programming numbers in a PC.

Mainframes use Octal = 1248. Which then requires an interface between them.

Or memory.

1248 1 – 9; A- F therefore 3FFF = 64K of memory.

Thus huge memory banks are designated in pages 0 1 2 3 4 etc.

Thus one could have Mem. location. 3FC8 Page 0 or 3FC8 Page 4, for instance.

For a 16 bi PC max mem page capacity = FFFF = 128K of memory.

That is why they went to 32 bit, and then 64 bit words. That allows each page of memory to be bigger, and enables the PC to have Megabytes of memory. Naturally this applies to Laptops Tablets etc.

EDIT Octal = 124 therefore 8 states are possible. 0 – 7

If you are not technical in computers an binary 0 is a valid state.

BIN 1 = 1: 01 = 2: 11 = 3: 001 = 4: 1001 = 5: 011 = 6. and so on.

HEX 0 = 0 : 1 = 1: 02 = 2 1008 = 9: A = 9: F = 15 (1248) Thus 16 states are possible in Octal 0 – 15

EDIT Line 3 101 = 5

That is a practical demo of why one uses Octal or Hexidecimal.

In Binary is so easy to displace a 1 or a 0 with disastrous results to your programme.

To be honest. It is probably sucking de fire.

“NO, NOT 124815 !” Complains Adrian Monk.
“Not 1, 2, 4, 8, 15. It has to be 1, 2, 4, 8,16 !”

I think it’s just LEET speak. But then again, “RABIS” doesn’t really mean anything. Oh well.
