Hm, I speak both English and Russian and I see no connection whatsoever between the two, on both dishes. When I saw “squirrel” (before seeing the actual picture), I thought “maybe something Russian about proteins” (protein is belok and squirrel is belka, automatic translators often mix those two up). But when the picture came up I was just confused. The 051 dish is “Fried carp without bones”. This isn’t Engrish. They didn’t misspell carp.
In Soviet Russia carp eats a squirrel
Actually this is correct. It is a traditional dish from Suzhou, Jiangsu. Carp was a fish not intended to be eaten by “regular” people, only by the emperor. A chef cut up the fish to represent a squirrel and therefore disguising the carp.
I know, odd story but they really serve it as “squirrel fish” and it’s really good too…
I’ll show them my Jack-a-lope if they show me their carp-squirrel!
