@Pete | 8:40 am: An Ocker is a type of Aussie person, usually male, roughly our analog of a redneck.
Strine is a broad Aussie accent, spoken by ockers and many other Aussies, e.g. Steve Irwin. “Strine” is how “Australian” can sound when they say it.

@Pete | 8:40 am: Also, the nationality is spelled “Aussie”, although we often refer to the country as “Oz”. I can understand how someone who didn’t grow up here could have problems keeping it all straight.
You may like to google Barry Mckenzie {fictional character) and Afferbeck Lauder (a pseudonym) which is how “alphabetical order” sounds in strine.

I wonder – did they call it “That’s” because both the word and the car are contractions?
Nonsuch Ned

The contraction is actually “That was”, not “That is.” It refers to the roadkill.
“That was a Cat”… “That was a turtle”… “That was a Racoon Dog”…

@DnT and Marum,
Thanks, mates. I was under the obviously mistaken impression I was talking about 2 different kinds of Australian accents. My fault.
No offense intended when I wrote Ozzie instead of Aussie.
So as i get it now, an Ocker is almost certain to speak Strine. correct?

@Pete | 7:37 am: Correct.
No worries about the spelling, it’s a common mistake.
